Georgia Diagnostic & Classification State Prison, Plant Loop Steam Upgrade—Jackson, Georgia

Replacement of existing underground steam loop system including interior building steam pipe, air handling unit coils, unit heaters, heat exchangers and domestic water. Work must be performed in numerous phases, starting with the installation of the all new pre-insulated site piping and precast vaults while at the same time performing the encapsulation and abatement of the asbestos contaminated crawlspaces and tunnels below and throughout the facility.

The next phase consists of installing a parallel steam and condensate system within the crawlspaces, tunnels and the facility itself to the point of connection at the various pieces of equipment including a fully operational kitchen and laundry, and all air handlers, unit heaters, condensate pumps, and new heat exchangers.

The next phase requires activating the new steam system along with the old and changing over each piece of equipment until all equipment is operational on the new system. The final phase is the deactivation and demolition of all of the old steam piping, condensate piping, deleted or replaced equipment and removal of all from the site.
